Hermes Press is coming to slay the fashion industry- with some HERstory! Gladys Parker: A Life in Comics, A Passion for Fashion explores the history behind Mopsy and her creator Gladys Parker! This beautiful book will also provide a rarely seen collection of Mopsy stories and many of Parker’s earlier strips.
Cartoonist Gladys Parker was unique in comics. As with Frida Kahlo, it was impossible to tell where her art left off and its creator began. Parker mixed fashion and comics and created classic characters that mimicked her sense of fashion. In fact, Parker was an exact double for her ink-and-paper creation, Mopsy.
Tarpe Mills and Dale Messick both dressed to kill and included paper dolls featuring their heroines’ chic 1940s wardrobes. Tarpe Mills and Lily Renee were fashion models before they drew comics. But only Gladys Parker (and one other)* was a fashion designer with a successful line of clothing while at the same time drawing an equally successful comic strip. Parker’s dresses bearing the Gladys Parker label were sold at her own New York shop and at high-end department stores across the country – and she also found the time to costume Hollywood movies and the beauties that starred in them!
Who better to chronicle the story of Gladys Parker than comics herstorian Trina Robbins, who in the 1960s designed clothes for hippies and rock stars out of her East Village boutique, while drawing underground comix?

COMING WINTER 2021
This deluxe hardcover includes a curated selection of Bob Scott's comic strip Bear with Me, presented for your enjoyment! There will be an introductory essay and never-before-seen art included in this beautiful book!
Molly has real-world problems; Bear has problems with the real world!
It can be tough being a tween. You want to do big things, change the world, and right some wrongs. But you also have to deal with math homework, getting enough sleep and the drama between your dad and pet bear. This is Molly’s world.
Being a tween is so much easier when your BFF is an 800 pound bear.
Bear is no ordinary bear. He sheds like a normal bear, he snores like a normal bear, but he is afraid of absolutely everything. Plus, he is allergic to fur. His own. But with Molly holding his paw, he can muddle through.
About the Creator:
Bob Scott lives in both the world of comic strips and animation. Born in Detroit, Bob began drawing at a young age, copying what he saw in the funny pages. Acceptance and graduation from California Institute of the Arts opened the world of character animation for Bob. He has worked over 35 years in the industry as an animator, character designer, storyboard artist and voice talent. His credits can be found on projects from Warner Brothers’ Bugs Bunny in Box Office Bunny (1990), Turner Animation’s Cat’s Don’t Dance and Pixar’s The Incredibles. He has worked for Jim Davis, co-penciling U.S. Acres and co-directing Garfield: His 9 Lives. Bob has always wanted a comic strip of his own, and so Bear with Me (aka Molly and the Bear) was born and became a syndicated webcomic in 2010.

Before Batman and Superman were even a glimmer in Bill Finger and Jerry Siegel’s eyes, Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson created National Allied Publications, which would then go on to become DC Comics; one of the largest comic publishers in the world.
Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson (the Major’s granddaughter and noted comics historian) will contribute a historical essay that provides an in depth look at the formation of National Allied Publications and the man behind New Fun, New Comics, and other memorable original comics that predated DC Comics’ inception. Other contributions include an intro by Jim Steranko (Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and an afterward by David Armstrong.
All the comics included in this tome have been painstakingly reproduced and repaired to show how they would have looked back in the 1930s; and also included are all the pulps that the comics were based on!
This groundbreaking book explores the history of DC Comics before it became the behemoth we know today; the pulp stories that formed the basis for all the different kinds of comics that exist today. Titles included in this historical reprint include Barry O'Neill and Fang Gow (script- Wheeler-Nicholson; art- Leo O'Mealia), Blood Pearls(script- Wheeler-Nicholson; art- Munson Paddock), Foe of the Borgias (script Wheeler-Nicholson; art- Sven Elven), The Golden Dragon (script Wheeler-Nicholson; art- Tom Hickey) and more!
